Link Types

Fortilink: Connection between FortiSwitch and FortiGate Protocol.

Fortilink stack: A managed FortiSwitch topology.

MCLAG: Multi-Chassis Link aggregation

ICL: Inter-Chassis Link (Link between switches in a MCLAG setup)

ISL: Inter-Switch Link

Trunk: LAG (not necessarily accepting all VLANs)

Be aware that the supported featureset differs between a FortiSwitch in managed and in standalone mode. Also smaller hardware plattforms lack some features.

For example MACSEC is only available on highend switches.

It's advisable to also consult the standalone documentation, even when using switches in FortiLink mode. Certain features are better documented in the standalone documentation.
